RESTORATIONS

Every bit the enthusiast you are, Silver Star is World well known for our classic Scooter restorations.

We enjoy seeking out and restoring rare and classic scooters to their pristine condition and working order.

Below are photos of some of our recent projects.

But lets start with photos of those in the queue for Master Peter’s touch !

PUCH Scooter Project – ACCOMPLISHED (2007)

This little beauty is a 1958 Puch RLA Scooter, manufactured in Austria. It came to us a little bit rusty, a little bit muddy & very blue. Even the mud was covered in blue paint! We performed a nut & bolt restoration to bring it back to it’s former glory.

NSU Scooter Project – ACCOMPLISHED (2008)

This was our next restoration project – a 1958 NSU Prima D. The German company NSU was basically copying the Lambretta LD. We bought it sight unseen, and it arrived in the sorry state you see. A previous owner had used some inventive (and rather brutal) techniques to bodge, sorry, service it. Peter spent a lot of his spare time rectifying these mistakes.

Dürkopp Scooter Project – ACCOMPLISHED (May 2010)

We were quite excited to have located one of these rare scooters, until we actually saw it! With only a few hundred remaining in the world, we knew we had to take it home for some Silver Star TLC, but boy, we have our work cut out for us! She is a 1957  Dürkopp Diana Standard. She is a very well engineered scooter and  very nice to ride.

Terrot Scooter Project – ACCOMPLISHED (2009)

The Terrot VMS was built as France’s answer to the Vespa. She is the first scooter we have bought in rideable condition, although at 98cc, and with only 2 gears, she was considered slow even in 1952. Today, her styling epitomises the diversity and imagination of sccoter design in the 50’s. She had been restored some time ago, using pieces of timber and mismatching bolts, so Peter stripped her down for a complete workover.

DKW Scooter Project – ACCOMPLISHED (2010)

This elegant run-about is our 1957 DKW Hobby Luxus scooter. Purchased as three rusty bodies from the back of a ute at a swap meet, it has sat in Peter’s workshop for several years waiting it’s turn on the operating table. When this scooter was made, DKW was part of Auto Union, and it carries the 4 linked rings familiar to Audi fans.It is one of the very earliest automatic scooters, with a continuously variable transmission, but only 75cc capacity.

Motobecane Scooter Project – IN PROGRESS

This 1954 Motobecane SC was a true extravagance for us at SilverStar. It is the first scooter we have ever imported from overseas. It is also our first four stroke scoot. These were made in France until 1954 when the SC was superseded by the much more common Motobecane Moby. The SC has many unusual quirks and beautiful styling and we look forward to making it gorgeous again. As far as we know, we have the only one of these in Australia, but if we are wrong, and you own one, we would love to hear from you.

TWN Tessy Scooter Project – ACCOMPLISHED (2017), photos coming soon!

Meet our TWN (Triumph Werke Nümberg) Tessy. We bought her sight unseen some years ago, and she arrived in a lot worse condition and much less complete than we had hoped. The Tessy was only made for a year, and this scooter is a 1957 model. We have slowly been gathering parts from around the world, and only now is she ready to go under the knife. Peter has had to do a lot of bodywork to beat the rust.
